Silicon Barium Alloy: Core Material for Efficient Deoxidation & Inoculation
Mar 24, 2026
Silicon Barium Alloy (SiBa) is a widely used multi-component metallurgical material in steelmaking and foundry industries. With superior deoxidation, desulfurization, and long-acting inoculation performance, it has become an indispensable additive for carbon steel, low-alloy steel, ductile iron, and gray iron production.
Compared with traditional ferrosilicon and single-element deoxidizers, barium in SiBa alloy effectively reduces calcium vapor pressure, prolongs reaction efficiency, and promotes the floating of deoxidation products.
This greatly reduces inclusions and blowhole defects, improves molten steel fluidity, prevents nozzle clogging, and stabilizes continuous casting operations.
In foundry applications, SiBa acts as a long-acting inoculant that suppresses chill tendency, refines grain structure, and promotes uniform graphite formation.
It significantly improves density, strength, and toughness of castings-especially for heavy-section and high-end mechanical castings-reducing rejection rates and enhancing product consistency.
