Chromium Resources Of Ferrochromium

Jul 07, 2022

The abundance of chromium in the earth's crust is 0.035%, but the resulting chromium ore contains high chromium. The chromite resources in the near-north-south fold belts on the earth account for more than 95% of the world's total, and the chromium resources in the Precambrian fold belts running through eastern Africa account for 94% of the world's total. The Ural Walisi fold belt accounts for about 2%, and the Alpine fold belt accounts for about 2% of the world total. The metallogenic geological conditions of chrome ore in China are not ideal, and the north-south chromite belt has not been found in the Cambrian geological area. The chromite deposits in Tibet-Yunnan belong to the Alpine fold belt; the chromite deposits in Xinjiang-Gansu, Qinghai-Inner Mongolia are in the Hercynian near-EW-trending fold belt; none of them have the conditions for the formation of super-large deposits. The main chromium-bearing mineral of industrial value is chromium spinel, often mistakenly called chromite. The most useful chrome spinel minerals are 3: magnesium chromite (Mg, Fe) Cr2O4, hard chrome spinel (Mg, Fe) (Cr, Al) 2O4 and aluminum chromite Fe (Cr, Al) 2O4.

The largest user of chrome ore is the ferroalloy industry, which accounts for about 80% of the total output of chrome ore. In the chrome ore market, it is called metallurgical grade chrome ore. High-quality metallurgical grade chrome ore requires Cr2O3>48%, S<0.1%, P<0.1%, Cr2O3: FeO>3, to produce ferrochromium containing Cr>70%. Due to the decreasing chrome-rich ore, the ore with a low ferrochrome ratio is relatively more abundant. They can only be used to smelt charge grade ferrochromium.
