Core Role of SiBaCa in Gray Iron Production

Gray iron is widely used in mechanical parts such as machine tool beds and pump bodies due to its low cost and good shock absorption.
However, it is prone to defects such as chill, shrinkage porosity and inclusions during production.
SiBaCa plays an irreplaceable role in solving these pain points:
First, it has strong deoxidation and desulfurization capabilities.
The Ba and Ca elements in SiBaCa have a strong affinity with oxygen and sulfur, which can quickly remove harmful impurities in molten iron, reduce the gas content in molten iron, and avoid the formation of blowholes and inclusions.
Second, it acts as a long-acting inoculant.
Compared with traditional ferrosilicon, the Ba element in SiBaCa can extend the inoculation validity period by twice, promote the precipitation of graphite, refine the graphite flake structure, effectively reduce the chill tendency, and improve the cutting performance of gray iron castings.
Third, it optimizes the metallurgical process.
Adding SiBaCa once can realize three functions of deoxidation, desulfurization and inoculation, reducing the times of adding multiple agents, saving energy consumption and reducing pollutant emissions, which is in line with the green low-carbon development trend.
