Introduction to Silicon

Jul 16, 2022

Silicon (Silicon) is a chemical element, the chemical symbol is Si, formerly known as silicon. The atomic number is 14, the relative atomic mass is 28.0855, there are two allotropes of amorphous silicon and crystalline silicon, and it belongs to the third period of the periodic table, a metalloid element of the IVA group.

Silicon is also an extremely common element, but it rarely occurs in nature in the form of simple substances, but in the form of complex silicates or silica, which widely exists in rocks, gravels, and dust. Silicon is the eighth most abundant resource in the universe. In the crust, it is the second most abundant element, making up 26.4% of the total mass of the crust, after oxygen (49.4%), which is the first.
